Student Government’s What Matters to U program returns this semester with its first in-person program in nearly two years. On Thursday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Shalala Student Center Ballrooms, Josh Peck will speak to students about how he 'made it' as a child star and encourage students to consider the many pathways to success, especially in today’s digital world.

“I hope students see this event as a space to have fun, engage with a high-profile speaker, and remember that we can have light on a campus even in the face of the many adversities of the past two years,” said Meera Patel, a junior and chair of What Matters to U. “Hopefully, we’ll get to experience some nostalgia and engage with someone we once idled, or even still do.”

Peck, most famous for his role as Josh on Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh” series, has turned his teen stardom into multiple lead roles in both films and other television series, including Netflix’s indie comedy, “Take The 10,” and starring in the Fox series, “Grandfathered.” He has also guest starred on “The Big Bang Theory” and as a recurring guest star on “The Mindy Project.”

Boasting more than 2.4 million Twitter followers and 5.3 million Instagram followers, Peck sees social media as a freeing place for artistic expression that is free from traditional media outlets.

“The goal of What Matters to U has been to have conversations that you would not necessarily have in a classroom, Patel added. “And Josh Peck has a lot to offer to our, generation especially about bypassing some more traditional career paths.”

Students can reserve their tickets for this in-person-only event starting Monday, Oct. 11 beginning at noon.
