It’s that time of year again, Senior Week is back with another lineup of events and giveaways for graduating students. From April 13 to April 18, seniors have plenty of opportunities to check off bucket list items and make lasting memories with friends. The week also serves as a chance to connect with campus partners and prepare for commencement.

Hurricane Productions (HP), the university’s largest student-run entertainment and programming board, is behind the festivities. Students involved in HP have worked tirelessly to bring the week to life. Even recurring events like Trivia Tuesday and DJ Thursday at the Rathskeller have been reimagined with seniors at the center.

Jeanine Ortiz, associate director for Student Activities and Student Organizations and an advisor for Hurricane Productions, is especially excited about this year’s mix of new events and refreshed favorites.

“This year, we introduced a brand-new tailgate experience before the baseball game against USF, which is something we haven’t done before,” Ortiz said. “It was a great opportunity for seniors to connect, enjoy food, and grab giveaways. Once inside, students also got to experience concession prices inspired by the ’70s, which added a fun and unique twist to the night.”

Karina Jacobson, a senior and outgoing co-chair of Hurricane Productions, has helped plan events all year and is looking forward to enjoying the hard work her peers put into Senior Week.

“I’m most excited to spend time with my friends and enjoy all of the events taking place this week,” Jacobson shared. “I love how even some of the typical HP programming, like DJ Thursday, is being dedicated to seniors, creating spaces for bonding and memories to be made.”

Also, this week was Volunteer Week with the Butler Center for Service and Leadership. In collaboration with Senior Week, The Volunteer Fair: Seniors Give Back was a chance for graduating students to engage on serving the local community and volunteer opportunities post-grad.

The celebration doesn’t stop there. To close out the week, Club Rat returns on Friday, April 17. Last year, the ticketed event featured drinks, food, and a club like experience all right here on campus.

“Club Rat is a high-energy night designed for seniors to come together, dance, and celebrate,” Ortiz said. “It’s a great chance to spend time with friends, enjoy the atmosphere, and make some final memories before graduation. There will also be a featured drink for the night, the Sebastian Spritz.”
