The University of Miami’s Sport Industry Conference 2017
On March 23rd, sport industry professionals from across the country will attend theUniversity of Miami’s Sport Industry Conference. The conference will take place at the University of Miami’s beautiful Coral Gables campus and will feature 2-days of panels, speakers and networking opportunities with industry insiders.
Students of the University of Miami’s online Master’s in Sport Administration program are given the opportunity to travel to campus and attend theconference each year. Here is what students can expect:
Keynote Speakers
This year’s conference will feature 2 keynote speakers. Thursday, March 23rd will feature former all-star, professional baseball player and current special adviser to Hal Steinbrenner of the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez.
Rodriguez played professional baseball for 22-years, including 14 All-Star appearances, three American League MVP awards and the 2009 World Series Championship. His current endeavors include A-ROD Corp, a private holding company, philanthropic initiatives including a seat at the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade as well as guest commentary for FOX Sports.
Friday, March 24thwill feature Greg Norman, one of the most successful athlete-turned-entrepreneurs to-date. Norman is a Hall-of-Fame golfer who has won 91 global golf tournaments and is the founder of the Greg Norman Company which features more than a dozen well-established companies. He will also be featured as a judge duringGreg Norman’s Search for the Next Great Sports Entrepreneur.

In addition to being a keynote speaker, Greg Norman and his team of investors will hear business pitches from several candidates hoping to receive financial backing from the Greg Norman Company. Candidates were selected from hundreds of applications that were submitted from eight different countries across five continents
Panels
Nine panels featuring 34 sport industry leaders and insiders will discuss trends and industry outlook. These panels will take place during both days of the conference and feature an interactive format where audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage with panel members. There will be several opportunities for students to network with industry professionals and UM faculty throughout the conference. The company showcase will feature multiple brands including ESPN, The Miami Heat, and the Orange Bowl. Students will be able to learn more about each brand as well as engage with company executives and employees. Additionally, two separate networking breaks will take place between panels on the second day.
