Deeply rooted in the traditions of the University of Miami’s rich and dynamic learning environment, the online Masters of Business Administration program integrates the best of our on-campus program into an online format. It’s designed for students looking to complete a first-class MBA education without enrolling in an on-campus program.
The faculty who teach the University of Miami’s online MBA program are handpicked from the on-campus program and chosen to adapt their courses for a network of global students. Faculty members are highly specialized, respected, and innovative, but even more, crucial — all have extensive real world as well as academic experience. And all share a deep sense of responsibility for equipping students with the tools they need to be successful business leaders.
Dr. Robert Plant, an Associate Professor with UM's School of Business Administration, is an expert in how technology is changing the business landscape. His current research is focused on business data re-engineering, as well as how emerging and current technology such as 3D printing, cloud computing, and big data are fundamentally changing the design, needs, and strategies for organizations.
This knowledge plays an important part in how Dr. Plant teaches students — passing on the importance of how these changing data trends will affect businesses of the future. Another of his passions is artificial intelligence, in which he often uses his experience to educate students about how this growing field of research is likely to affect markets, and data through automation processes is invaluable.
“I try to bring the practitioner view to my students, as well as a theoretical background from my experience with technology, and integrate it with business and strategy,” says Dr. Plant.
Dr. Patricia Abril is an Associate Professor at the School of Business Administration. Harvard-trained, Dr. Abril specializes in the area of privacy law, with a focus on social media and employment law. She is actively involved in the ongoing debates about privacy and emerging technology. Sharing this dynamic knowledge with her students places them directly on the pulse of current business laws before they even leave the classroom.
As part of the online MBA program, Dr. Abril teaches an optional one-week, on-campus residency. The residency course features in negotiations, which combines research, speakers, and role-playing activities for students to gain experience in different types of negotiations. She especially looks forward to meeting her students in person. “I hope they put together all the research, outcomes, and theories and see if we can turn on some lightbulbs along the way.”
MBA student AJ Titus traveled to the UM campus for the residency program. “I wanted to meet people face to face. I had been working with many of these students for over a year,” says Titus. His experience in Miami was great. “I was able to become immersed in the business school,” which is not always the case for online students.
