2017 marked a record year for the University of Miami’s online graduate programs. A record number of students graduated in May of 2017 and in December of 2017, UOnline students from each of its graduate programs participated in commencement for the first time.
UOnline’s most recent graduate class represented students from across the country who collectively created a unique group of students who can all proudly identify as University of Miami alumni. These students were invited to the University of Miami’s Coral Gable campus in December where they joined their on-campus peers to receive their diploma.
An emotional day for many who were joined by members of their families, it was also the first time many students meet their peers and faculty face-to-face. Prior to commencement students were invited to attend a private reception for UOnline where they were honored for their accomplishment and invited to celebrate with family, faculty, and new friends.
The next day students donned their regalia for the commencement ceremony held at the University of Miami’s Watsco Center. UM alumnus Rony Abovitz, founder, president, and CEO of Magic Leap Inc., spoke to graduates describing what he believes the future holds and encouraging students to look forward. After Abovitz’s address students walked across the Watsco Center stage and received their University of Miami diploma.
