Dr. Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda of the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies’ Center of Excellence for Health Disparities Research: El Centro, led a 3 hour training course, “Domestic Violence and the Role of the Healthcare Provider: Assessment and Intervention Strategies” at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, FL.



19th Annual Conference on “Human Trafficking: Interrupting the Pathway to Victimization”

Dr. Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda represented El Centro as an invited panelist at the 19th Annual Conference on “Human Trafficking: Interrupting the Pathway to Victimization”, hosted by The Melissa Institute For Violence Prevention and Treatment on May 1st.


El CENTRO Sponsors Community Training Course

University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies’ Center of Excellence for Health Disparities Research: El Centro, sponsored and co-hosted an all-day training course, “Essentials of Gender and Orientation”, at YES Institute; an educational community organization that focuses on the healthy development of all youth through powerful communication on gender and orientation.


EL CENTRO receives award from CVAC

In observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights week, the Coordinated Victims Assistance Center (CVAC) hosted the “Engaging Communities. Empowering Victims” event on April 22, 2015, where it presented Center of Excellence for Health Disparities Research: El Centro, with an award in recognition of El Centro and CVAC’S longstanding community partnership.


EL CENTRO Hosts Regional and World Leaders on Immigrant Health

It was a day that advanced the mission of the SONHS’ Center of Excellence for Health Disparities Research: El Centro to place health equity front and center on a local, national, and global scale.


Researcher “Speed Dating” at the SONHS

The term “speed dating” took on a whole new meaning on Friday at the School of Nursing and Health Studies, when aspiring nurse researchers joined faculty scientists for a lunchtime event billed as a unique educational opportunity.


Publication acknowledged as “some of the very best research within the field.”

It has been a little over four years since the The Future of Nursing report called on health professions educators to instill in all students the tools for interprofessional collaboration.

In a standing-room only event that advanced its mission to place health equity front and center in the South Florida community and beyond, the SONHS’ Center of Excellence for Health Disparities Research: El Centro co-hosted The Human Trafficking Community Resources Awareness Symposium on Wednesday, May 28 2014 from 9:30 am to 12 noon at the School of Nursing and Health Studies.
