The event held on Monday, January 27, 2020, was open to the public at the Division of Continuing and International Education's (DCIE) Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Lau Founders Hall on the Coral Gables Campus of the University of Miami.
As part of an effort to teach the importance of financial literacy, Commissioner Roisman answered questions and provided tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of investment fraud. Last year, in support of National Financial Capability Month, the SEC’s Miami Regional Office worked with local high schools, universities, veterans, other military groups, and senior investors to help educate the South Florida community about personal finances.
"Our mission is to protect investors and maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets," said Commissioner Roisman. “We’re here to listen to what’s impacting you and what you’re concerned about.”
More than 60 OLLI members attended the event. OLLI provides an enriching community to adults at least 50 years or better, by offering an extensive catalog of over 300 classes ranging from cyber security to tai chi. OLLI is one of several programs offered through DCIE, which focuses on creating continuous learning experiences that transform individuals, organizations, and entire communities.
