Alumni Receive Awards at Broward Judicial Reception

The Law Alumni Association recently held its Broward Judicial Reception, a chance for friends to greet each other and network, and for a few alumni to be honored.

The guests at the reception in the 110 Tower in Fort Lauderdale were welcomed by Daniel S. Newman, J.D. ’91, president of the Law Alumni Association, and Dean David Yellen, who presented the Law Alumni Association awards to four alumni.

The Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes alumni from around the country who have excelled in their chosen field and in service to the University of Miami and the legal profession, was given to two alumnae:  the Honorable Shari Africk-Olefson, LL.M. ’89, circuit court judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida, and the Honorable Elizabeth A. Scherer, J.D. ’01, also a circuit court judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida.

The Young Alumni Rising Star was awarded to Corey P. Gray, J.D. ’14, partner at the Fort Lauderdale office of Boies Schiller Flexner.

The “We are Proud of U” award was presented to Michael Satz, J.D. ’67, former Florida state attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit, and The Honorable Raag Singhal, a judge in the Southern District of Florida.
