As we kick off Homecoming weekend, step into the Whitten University Center and embark on a visual journey through the University of Miami’s remarkable physical evolution. The new photographic installation, A Century in Focus, invites you to explore 100 years of history, growth, and transformation at the University of Miami, from its founding in 1925 in the heart of Coral Gables, "The City Beautiful," to its current standing as a globally recognized research institution.
Pat Whitely, senior vice president for student affairs and alumni engagement, chair of the working centennial committee, emphasizes the importance of this initiative, stating, "We wanted to create an installation that not only honors our history but also highlights the evolving student experience at the University of Miami. This journey through time serves as a celebration of our past and a guiding light for our future."
This display designed to be more than a collection of images; it captures the physical evolution of our institution—times of expansion, innovation, and transformation. Each photograph offers a window into our shared history, celebrating how far we have come from our modest beginnings to the comprehensive research institution we know today.
Flanking the exhibit is an installation that highlights the student experience through the perspectives of past university presidents.
