Welcome to Miami

An important thing to know about me is that I was born and raised in Miami. I’ve never lived anywhere else! Tragically, my phone number starts with the 786 area code and not the iconic 305, but I’ve learned to live with it.

As soon as you arrive in Miami, you’ll quickly learn why it’s called the Magic City. You’ll meet people from all over the world, find countless neighborhoods to explore, and enjoy the natural beauty that comes from living in a city less than an hour away from two national parks (Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park, in case you were wondering).

When I was about to start my first year at UM, I thought I knew everything that the city of Miami had to offer. I didn’t think the city could continue to surprise me, or that there was anything new for me to discover. I’m sure many of you incoming ’Canes who might have visited or grown up here can relate. But I have a feeling it won’t take you long to realize how wrong you were. Transitioning into adulthood will give you a brand-new set of eyes to see the city with! You’ll realize that Miami is always evolving; always giving us something new to do, somebody new to meet, someplace new to explore, and something new to learn about.
