You should be extremely proud of your accomplishments! With your admission most likely comes a sigh of relief, but you may be thinking, “What now?” Don’t worry; I will break down a list of next steps to make your transition as easy as can be.
If you have questions that you cannot find answers to online, feel free to reach out to your personal admission counselor.
It’s Official
Now that you’ve made it official, be sure to:
- Set up your University of Miami email and check it regularly
- Confirm your contact information in CaneLink, UM’s student portal
- Set up delegate access in CaneLink
- Register for ’Cane Kickoff
For more information and other immediate to-do items, check out our checklist.
Secure Housing
Up next is housing. In CaneLink you’ll apply for on-campus housing, search for (or request) a roommate, and choose a meal plan. Remember, unless you live in Miami-Dade or Broward counties*, you are required to live on campus your first year. Students admitted for the fall semester should apply for housing no later than May 15. Housing applications received after this date will be waitlisted until an available space can be identified. Students admitted for the spring semester can apply for housing through CaneLink beginning in late October.
*If you live locally and plan to commute to campus, you’ll need to apply for a waiver for the first-year residency requirement.
Registration and Orientation
At this point, most of the heavy lifting is done. However, you may still have questions about scheduling classes and orientation. Don’t worry, you will soon receive the Road to UM, which includes all the information you need to make your transition to UM a successful one. You’ll also have access to our GPS Team over the summer, which is made up of successful undergraduate students who are eager and available to help you navigate the transition process.
The last step is to have fun! Getting ready for college is an exciting time. Embrace the process and soak up every minute of it. And, as always, reach out to the Admission office at 305-284-6000 or admission@miami.edu if we can assist you in any way.
We are so excited to welcome you to campus this fall.
Go ’Canes!
