Which UM Admission Plan is Right for Me?

Application season brings with it the dizzying task of tracking deadlines for all schools on your college list. Let’s go through a bird’s-eye view of first-year fall application plan options at the University of Miami and who could benefit most from each one.

Generally speaking, there are four ways first-year students can apply to become a Miami Hurricane in the fall. Before we dive in, a fun fact: All applicants are considered for merit scholarships automatically—there is no separate application.

Fall First-Year Applicants

Binding Plans - If admitted, you’re committed.

  • Great for those who are sure the University of Miami is the place they want to complete their studies.
  • Great for those who are not looking to compare financial aid offers nor merit scholarship offers.
Early Decision I (EDI)
  • Application is due November 1
  • Final credentials are due November 14
  • Decision released mid-December
Early Decision II (EDII)
  • Application is due January 5
  • Final credentials are due January 26
  • Decision released late February

Nonbinding Plans - Apply first, weigh your options later.

  • Great for those who still want options if they are admitted to the University of Miami.
  • Great for those who would like to compare financial aid offers and/or merit scholarship offers.
Early Action (EA)
  • Application is due November 1
  • Final credentials are due November 21
  • Decision released late January
Regular Decision (RD)*
  • Application is due January 5
  • Final credentials are due February 6
  • Decision released April 1

*Regular Decision deadline for all Frost School of Music applicants is December 1.

If applying to the School of Architecture, the Frost School of Music, or a BFA program in the College of Arts and Sciences, review the requirements for your chosen school and the corresponding deadlines for those materials.

  • SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

    First-Year applicants who do not submit test scores are required to submit a portfolio. Transfer students are not required to submit a portfolio.

  • FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC

    The Frost School of Music requires applicants to submit a supplemental application, prescreen, and audition.

    Prescreen and audition are not needed if you are applying for the Audio Technology (BS) major or the Music Industry BA major.

  • COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: ART BFA

    First-Year applicants who do not submit test scores are required to submit a portfolio via the Applicant Portal.

  • COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: THEATRE ARTS BFA

    Applicants interested in majoring in the Theatre Arts BFA program are required to submit additional materials, regardless of whether they submit test scores. The Stage Management and Design/Technical Production programs require a portfolio. The Musical Theatre program requires an Audition Request Form and fee.
