It’s a special time here in the 25th parallel.

Meet Penny. A third year student majoring in History and Psychology. She just finished her fall 2024 semester, and celebrated with the ideal fall weekend in the Magic City.

There’s something special about fall in Miami. While the rest of the country pulls out sweaters and braces for chilly weather, we get sun-soaked days and refreshing evenings.

Fall semester was packed with events—football games, Homecoming, ’Canes Carnival, and everything hosted by student organizations. My go-to spots for catching up on homework or studying were the Lakeside Patio (especially when I could snag a glider) and the library when I needed to really focus (like during finals last week). Afterward all that cramming, though, I really needed a chance to unwind and get the good times rolling.

My end-of-fall semester celebratory weekend started outdoors, taking advantage of Miami’s perfect fall weather. A sunrise paddle boarding session at Matheson Hammock Park set the tone, with the sky painted in soft pinks and oranges. Later, I went for a run along the Rickenbacker Causeway. The views of the Miami skyline from the top of the bridge are breathtaking.

Exploring Miami’s foodie scene is always a highlight (no matter the season)! Brunch at Greenstreet Café in Coconut Grove was obviously a must—the Nutella French Toast is absolutely worth the hype. For lunch, I went to my go-to spot in the Design District, Tacombi. Their tacos are delicious, and the space feels like a mini getaway. When dinner rolled around, I went for the classic Mandolin Aegean Bistro in Buena Vista. Nothing beats an evening there with the outdoor seating, twinkling lights, and Greek-inspired dishes.

Life as a UM student in the fall feels like something out of a movie. There’s an energy in the air that’s hard to describe—new friendships forming, cheers echoing from Hard Rock Stadium, and the campus buzzing with possibility. It’s a season that reminds me how lucky I am to call this vibrant city and campus my home.
