Faculty Spotlight, School of Education and Human Development

We know it’s hard to believe, but professors have whole lives outside of the classroom (wild, right?!). We sat down with some professors to give you a glimpse of the human behind the title and the syllabus. It turns out they have favorite foods and pets and hobbies, too. Professors… they’re just like us!

Youngho Park, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Sport Administration

What part of your work makes you most proud?

As an educator, it is incredibly rewarding to see students grow and thrive as they progress through my courses. Witnessing their transformation—from hesitant beginners to confident and knowledgeable individuals—is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my job. I take great pride in knowing that my teaching not only imparts knowledge but also shapes their personal and professional development. Being able to make a direct and lasting impact on their growth is what makes my work so meaningful to me.

What makes your day better?

I work out regularly after a long day of work, and it has become a crucial part of my routine. I particularly enjoy running outside in the evening, as Miami’s warm and pleasant weather makes it ideal for outdoor activities. There’s something so invigorating about feeling the fresh air and unwinding as I run. It helps clear my mind, release stress, and recharge my energy. By the time I finish, I feel refreshed, both physically and mentally, ready to tackle whatever comes next.

What is the most exciting thing happening in your field right now?

Ever since Moneyball revolutionized the sports world, there has been a growing movement toward data-driven decision-making across industries. The concept of leveraging data to gain insights and improve outcomes has transformed not only sports but also the business world at large. Today, everyone is talking about the data revolution, and the sports industry is at the forefront of this transformation. With advancements in analytics, technology, and artificial intelligence, we are seeing unprecedented opportunities to innovate, enhance performance, and connect with fans in new ways. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be part of this field.

How do you recharge?

I love cooking—not just for myself, but also to share with my loved ones. For me, cooking is more than just a daily task—it’s a creative outlet and a way to relax after a busy day. I enjoy experimenting with new recipes and techniques, as well as recreating familiar dishes that bring comfort and nostalgia. Sharing a meal with friends and family is incredibly rewarding, as it creates moments of connection and joy. There’s something special about seeing others enjoy something I’ve put my heart into preparing.

What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Before moving to Miami, I had never tried Cuban food, and it has been an exciting culinary journey for me ever since. I’ve discovered a variety of Cuban dishes, from ropa vieja to pastelitos, and I make it a point to try something new whenever I get the chance. The bold flavors, unique ingredients, and rich cultural heritage behind each dish have expanded my appreciation for the cuisine. Exploring these new flavors has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of living in Miami.

Seeing students put into practice various elements of the coursework that they’ve learned throughout the semester.

What makes your day better?

A good night’s rest and getting a call from my Abuela.

What is the most exciting thing happening in your field right now?

Between monstrous amounts of NIL dollars, the transfer portal changing the game, and a rise in the popularity of international motorsport, there are a lot of exciting shifts to choose from!

How do you recharge?

Honestly, the DND function is my best friend. I can recharge snuggled up with my pets or listening to live jazz, but so long as I can do it uninterrupted, I’m so much happier.

What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Cuy in Peru. Look it up!
