Mei-Ling Shyu, professor in the College of Engineering’s Department of of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) 2021 College of Fellows, one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to medical and biological engineers.

Shyu was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the development of machine learning and computational algorithms with applications in bioengineering. Shyu’s research is focused on advancing the understanding and applications of data science, data mining, machine learning, deep learning, multimedia information systems, big data analytics, semantic-based information management/fusion/retrieval, database management systems, multimedia networking and security.

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top 2% of medical and biological engineers.
