Recent Miami Law Graduate Selected

Frederick Hawkins, who graduated last Saturday from Miami Law, was selected as a 2011 Finalist for the federal Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program. Hawkins recently accepted a fellowship position as a Foreign Affairs Officer with the U.S. Department of State. He will work on immigration policy related to the administration of the State Department's Visa program and provide guidance to embassies on the issuance of immigrant and non-immigrant visas.

The PMF Program was established by Executive Order in 1977 to attract to the federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs.

The rigorous two-year paid fellowship includes 160 hours of formal classroom training, four to six month developmental assignments, optional one to six month rotations, challenging work assignments, potential for accelerated promotions, and opportunities to network with other future leaders.

More than 80 federal agencies currently partner with the PMF Program Office to hire Fellows annually. Fellows engage in solving domestic and international issues such as Public Administration, Foreign Policy, Technology, Science, Criminal Justice, Health, and Financial Management.

Hawkins was the only 2011 Finalist to be selected from the University of Miami. He is among 850 students from schools across the country who were selected as Finalists for the celebrated fellowships. Over 9100 individuals applied for the 2011 fellowships.
