Frank Angones is founding partner in the Miami law firm of Angones, McClure & Garcia. He was the first Cuban-born president of The Florida Bar, and has worked actively with such wide ranging groups as the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Facts About Cuban Exiles, and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida. In 2008, the University of Miami honored Angones with the Edward T. Foote II Alumnus of Distinction Award.
The Honorable A. Jay Cristol is Chief Judge Emeritus of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Miami. He spent 18 years as a Naval aviator before joining the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, where he graduated with distinction from Naval Justice School. Judge Cristol then served as a lawyer for another twenty years, with duties that included teaching law of war and serving as the administrative officer for the summer Naval Reserve law courses. In civilian life, Judge Cristol became a lawyer and practiced civil law. He served as Special Assistant Attorney General of Florida and, after 25 years of law practice, he left his position as senior partner in a firm he founded to accept an appointment to the federal bench. He is an Adjunct Professor at Miami Law.
Edward A. Moss is a litigation partner at Shook Hardy & Bacon and has served on the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission and its Committee on Standard Jury Instructions, as well as on the Civil Justice Advisory Commission for the Southern District of Florida. Moss is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the International Society of Barristers. He is also consistently listed in The Best Lawyers in America and has been selected as one of the top 10 litigators in Florida.
Ellen Catsman Freidin is the campaign chair of Fair Districts Florida and the first woman to serve as chair of the Miami-Dade Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. She served as chairperson of the Florida Bar Special Committee for Gender Equality and the Dade County Bar Judicial Campaign Practices Commission. She was also appointed to the Florida Constitution Revision Commission by the Governor.
Honorees will receive their awards on November 12 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel.
