HOPE will kick-off the day on the Bricks at the law school (1311 Miller Drive) at 8 a.m. Both new and returning law students will travel to 20 sites across Miami-Dade. Students will engage in a day of repairs, clean-ups and renovations. They will also participate in activities with children, elderly, homeless families, and more. One team of eager volunteers will head to Abriendo Puertas in the Little Havana neighborhood. The community-based human services agency offers programs in Adult and Community Education, Family Support, and Child and Youth Development. HOPE Day volunteers will be helping children sort toiletries and canned goods collected by the center to donate to Camillus House. Also, volunteers with be helping children create birthday cards to be distributed to residents at local nursing homes.
"At the University of Miami School of Law, our students recognize that the privilege of a legal education comes with a responsibility to help others," said Marni Lennon, Assistant Dean for Public Interest and Pro Bono. "We are thrilled to kick off the academic year with the most far-reaching HOPE Day ever."
This event is presented as a day of community service grounded in the teachings of social justice and civic engagement. University of Miami students, staff, faculty, and alumni will come together on this day to strengthen the community and bridge social barriers.
