Judge Adalberto Jose Jordan Leads Swearing-In Ceremony

Miami Law graduate Annery Pulgar Alfonso, JD 11, was sworn into the Florida Bar on Thursday, one day after many of her classmates took the Oath of Office. Alfonso had opted for a more intimate swearing-in ceremony at the Downtown Miami Courthouse. She was inducted by Miami Law alumnus Judge Adalberto Jose Jordan, Federal District Court Judge for the Southern District of Florida.

It was an emotional moment for family and friends who witnessed Judge Jordan induct a fellow graduate. Judge Jordan obtained his J.D. summa cum laude in 1987 and was recently nominated by President Barack Obama to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. The judge has also served as an adjunct professor at Miami Law since 1990.

While in school, Alfonso served as a STREET lawyer – a program she credits as an amazing opportunity that taught her how to be a great lawyer. During the summer, Alfonso interned at the Miami Dade County Attorney's Office. Miami STREET Law Director, Karen Throckmorton was also in attendance.

Currently, Alfonso works as an assistant county attorney practicing torts, medical malpractice, commercial litigations and appeals. If confirmed to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, Alfonso will serve as a law clerk to Judge Jordan starting September 2012. Otherwise, she will clerk for Judge Jordan in 2013, while he serves as a District Court Judge – an opportunity, she said, is just unbelievable.

After the celebrations, Alfonso quickly took to Facebook to share the news. "I couldn't have made it in one piece without my wonderful family and friends," she wrote.
