The Society of Bar & Gavel transformed the campus midway – located in the heart of Miami Law – into a fun-filled play zone. The event promotes community service within the law school, allowing students to give back to low-income communities in the Miami-Dade area without even leaving the campus.
"I think this event is so critical for these kids in our community," says Nachman Susson, third-year law student and president of the Society of Bar & Gavel. "As law students, we are in a unique position to help others – especially children who are in communities that are too often overlooked and forgotten."
Orchard Villa Elementary School is located in Liberty City, "a low socioeconomic urban community comprised of government subsidized housing and some private homes," the elementary school website says. Orchard Villa Elementary is historically cited as the first Florida school to experience desegregation.
"We just wanted to take them out on a field trip and give them a fun-filled day that they would remember for a long time to come," Susson says. "I know we were successful in achieving this."
