"We really are about women helping women," Meghan Weinstein said. The MLW vice president and treasurer took a moment to debunk the idea that the organization is for females only. "We provide great networking opportunities. We have a good reputation." Men are also welcome.
Last month, the organization raised more than $4,090 during its VIPink Party, which was held at the Viceroy in Brickell. The money – raised exclusively off of admission prices – will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The organization has an annual fund raising goal of $10,000.
This month, MLW will co-sponsor a domestic violence panel with the Child Advocacy and Family Law Society on Oct 19.
The following Monday, Oct. 24, MLW will host a general meeting in which participants will role play how to effectively network. The meeting will take place in room F209 during the lunch break. On Tuesday, October 25, MLW will also host a social at the Conrad Miami in Brickell. The organization also provides a special mentor-mentee program, which pairs 1Ls with upper-level students.
"The one thing that we really want people to know about us is that we're on campus to help students," Weinstein said. "We're here and we're available as a resource. Use us for networking. Use us for outlining. We're here to help."
