The Law Alumni Association presented the Alumni Achievement Award to the Hon. Stanton S. Kaplan, JD '62, and recognized Jordana L. Goldstein, JD '94, with the Alumni Leadership Award. The late Donald C. McClosky, JD '60, was honored posthumously with the Alumni Achievement Award.
A two-time University of Miami alumnus, Kaplan is a retired judge from the 17th Judicial Circuit, Criminal Court. While a student at Miami Law, he served as editor of the University of Miami Law Review.
Goldstein is a partner with the law firm of Ferencik Libanoff Brandt Bustamante & Williams, P.A., where she practices construction and general commercial litigation. She is the current president of the Broward Bar Association.
McClosky was also a two-time University of Miami alumnus. He practiced law for 45 years and was considered one of the preeminent land use and zoning lawyers in the nation. He died last year.
The Palm Beach Judicial Reception will be held on April 18 at the Phillips Point Club at the Breakers Hotel. The Law Alumni Association will present the Alumni Achievement Award to Robert A. Bertisch, JD '70, and the Alumni Leadership Award to Gary S. Lesser, JD '92.
Bertisch is the executive director of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. He is past president of the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches and Leadership Palm Beach County, a corporate board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach and a board member of the Anti-Defamation League of Palm Beach.
Lesser is managing partner of Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, and serves on the Florida Bar Board of Governors. He is past chair of the Palm Beach County Bar Association Professionalism and Medical/Legal Committees. He has been named a Florida Super Lawyer in personal injury law.
The Alumni Achievement and Leadership Awards recognize Miami Law alumni whose professional achievements, leadership and service to the legal community are noteworthy.
