At Miami Law, Pieciak served as Editor-in-Chief of the Miami Law Review, and was involved in the Society of Bar and Gavel. He was a Dean's Fellow and a member of the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court. Earlier, in 2006, Pieciak graduated from Union College with honors in political science.

"Mike was a standout in all of his law school endeavors, from law review to moot court to clinic," said Professor Bernard P. Perlmutter, Director of the Children and Youth Law Clinic. "His abundant commitment to public service and his interest in public policy were also in evidence as a law student. We all felt that he has the political acumen and DNA to be a future Vermont governor or senator."

After law school, Pieciak joined the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, working in its corporate restructuring group, and later clerked in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida before returning to Vermont. During the 2008 election, Mike served as a Vermont delegate to the Democratic National Convention and was Florida's Voting Rights Coordinator for the National Democratic Law Students Council. He is now an attorney in the Burlington office of Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC, representing clients across Vermont and in northern New York in corporate matters and commercial transactions; bankruptcies and related issues; and trusts and estate matters.

"Miami Law provided me with a great legal education that has prepared me to succeed in a variety of careers," Pieciak said. "I know that the skills and knowledge I gained from my time at Miami will serve me very well in this current endeavor."
