Doors to the BankUnited Center will open at 12 p.m., and the event will begin at 2 p.m. No large bags, purses exceeding 8.5 inches by 11 inches, backpacks, sharp objects, umbrellas, food or drinks, video cameras, signs or banners will be allowed into the building. Cameras and cell phones are permitted.
All attendees must go through metal scanners and should bring as few personal items as possible. Since it will take time to clear security, please plan on arriving early. Late arrivals will not be guaranteed entry. Faculty, staff, and students of the University of Miami are encouraged to wear orange and green to the event to show their 'Cane spirit.
Because of the high volume of vehicular and pedestrian traffic expected around the BankUnited Center, UM employees and students are advised to walk to the venue from other points on campus. The Department of Parking and Transportation Services released a statement on Tuesday that warned of parking lot closures and longer than usual traffic delays in the areas surrounding the BUC. "Give yourselves extra time to commute to and from campus," the statement advised.
Walsh Avenue, the street in front of the BUC, will be closed from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 11 p.m. Wednesday. Anyone trying to drive on this street when the security gates on Merrick Drive and Dickinson Drive are closed will be directed through the parking lot. Yellow zone parking permit holders who are displaced from their zone will receive a separate communication with detailed information regarding alternate parking.
Additional shuttles will be available. For security reasons, there will be a 20 to 30-minute interruption of Metrorail service sometime between noon and 6 p.m.
