Several members of the Miami-based office, including seven Miami Law alumni, contributed toward the creation of The Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP Endowed Scholarship Fund. Edward Soto, partner of the firm, also made a generous donation to the scholarship.
"For more than five decades the University of Miami has played an active role in my family's intellectual and economic development," said Soto. "I have also been lucky enough to hire and work alongside a number of graduates of the Law School who remain valuable colleagues and partners."
Founded in 1931, Weil, Gotshal & Manges has long been one of the world's leading law firms known for its expertise in restructuring, M&A, private equity and litigation. The firm's Miami office, opened in 1981, practices real estate, business finance and restructuring, municipal bond financing and commercial litigation.
"My colleagues at Weil and I have long recognized the leading role the University of Miami School of Law plays in the legal community of South Florida where we have been located for over 30 years," said Soto. "We wanted to give something back to an institution that has served our law firm and our families in so many important ways. We felt that the establishment of this scholarship was an appropriate way to express our appreciation for the important role this institution plays in our profession."
