Miami Law’s Inter-American Law Review will host a conversation titled War on Drugs Unwrapped: Reinventing Inter-American Drug Policy on Thursday, March 20. The program includes screening of the 2011 documentary Cocaine Unwrapped, which uses reporting to focus on the cycle of violence perpetuated by the global cocaine trade and examines the complicity of Latin American political leaders.
The program will take place at 6 p.m. in the Senate Room at the University of Miami Student Activities Center on the Coral Gables campus.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with leading experts in the field, including Bruce Bagley, Chair, Department of International Studies, University of Miami; Eduardo Gamarra, Professor, Department of Politics and International Relations, Florida International University; Francisco Thoumi, member of the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB); and James Gailey, Miami Law adjunct professor and Miami criminal defense trial attorney.
The Inter-American Law Review (IALR) is devoted to providing a forum through which legal scholars, practitioners, and students discuss major international and inter-American legal and legally related developments. IALR is recognized as the only student-run periodical to focus solely on legal issues that directly affect Latin America and the Caribbean. With the continuing emergence of Miami as a center of international trade, finance, and law, the focus of IALR becomes increasingly important and relevant to the surrounding environs.
