The Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida will honor Vance Aloupis, JD ’08, with the 2014 Young Floridian award on June 3 in Orlando. Aloupis, who is the State Director for The Children’s Movement of Florida, has worked tirelessly to advance a grass-roots movement on behalf of Florida’s children.
After practicing law in South Florida, Aloupis joined The Children’s Movement in June 2010. Working directly with David Lawrence, chairman of The Children’s Movement and recipient of the Center for Public Service’s Citizen of the Year Award, Aloupis’s work focuses on building statewide awareness and support for early childhood education.
A two-time alumnus of the University of Miami, Aloupis was a former student body president, and a student trustee on the UM Board of Trustees. While a student at Miami Law, Aloupis was the Judge Peter Palermo Fellow in Miami STREET Law, where he created and taught curricula for juvenile detention centers in South Florida. Aloupis also worked as both a civil litigator and with the Legal Services of Greater Miami Homeless Project prior to joining The Children’s Movement.
In 2012, Aloupis was appointed by Governor. Rick Scott to serve a two-year term as a commissioner for the Governor’s Commission on Community Service. He is a board member for the Miami Coalition for the Homeless and the Awesome Foundation Miami and is a Young Alumni Leadership Council Member with the Law Alumni Association.
The Bob Graham Center for Public Center awards were established to recognize Florida residents who have made a substantial contribution to enhancing the quality of life for state residents.
