The Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board finished as the ninth best moot court team in the country this past academic year. As a result of this top ranking, Miami Law’s team has received an invitation to the prestigious Andrews Kurth Moot Court National Championship in Houston, which pits the top sixteen teams in the nation against one another to crown the moot court national champion.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the success we had this year,” said David T. Coulter, President of the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board. “It was certainly one of our best years in recent memory. Without a doubt, our success was the result of the tireless effort of our members, outgoing executive board, advisers, and alumni. We have been very fortunate to have some best attorneys in Florida assist us over the past year and we thank them for their time and effort.”
This past year, Miami Law experienced an unprecedented winning streak. Students from the Charles Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board distinguished themselves with outstanding competition results at the national level.
Students took home the top spot in four prestigious competitions: the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Regional Competition, the Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, the Irving R. Kaufman Memorial Moot Court Competition and the John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition.
Miami Law students also finished in the top 4 percent at the National Appellate Advocacy Championship held in Chicago, Illinois and advanced to the semifinals of Tulane Law's Annual National Baseball Arbitration Competition.
“The ranking memorializes for us what was a collection of outstanding performances from each of our talented young advocates who competed in the past year,” said Coulter. “Our teams consistently excelled in their competitions and we were able to come away from three of those competitions as champions, with many others earning honors for best written brief and best speaker. Because of our stellar finish as one of the top ten moot court programs in the country we will have the opportunity to compete for the national championship in January. We look forward to another year of great success.
