The Consul General of Israel, Chaim Shacham, recently spoke to law students at Miami Law regarding developing issues affecting Israel and its neighbors.
Shacham discussed a number of topics, focusing mainly on the topic of preventing a nuclear Iran. He stressed that a nuclear Iran is a “major threat” to Israel’s safety and stated that, “no Israeli government will ever agree to Iran going nuclear.”
The “historical changes” that are occurring in the Middle East, were also covered with Shacham stating that the “nation-state model in the Middle East is entirely different today.” He used examples such as Libya and Syria and described them as “completely different” from the countries we used to know. “We are seeing a rejection of nation-states and a strengthening of religious ideology.”
Shacham assumed the post of Consul General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico in the summer of 2011 and reached a number of important milestones in Florida-Israel relations, including the signing of a ground-breaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Joint Israel-Florida Research and Development in the realm of Space. In addition, special initiatives were undertaken by Shacham to develop strategic relationships with the growing Hispanic community and to prevent a nuclear-bent Iran from benefiting from Florida taxpayer dollars.
