"It feels very surreal that we won,” said Thannikkotu. “Our success is a true reflection of the extreme dedication of our wonderful coaches. Without them, we would not have been the strong team that we became. I was also very lucky to have my entire family there cheering for me! It will forever be one of my proudest law school memories."
Named after the drafter of the Model Penal Code, the annual Wechsler Competition is the only national moot court competition in the United States to focus on topics in substantive criminal law. Problems address the constitutionality and interpretation of federal and state criminal statutes as well as general issues in the doctrine of federal and state criminal law. Twenty-two teams from law schools across the country competed this year.
“It was an honor to represent the Charles C. Papy Moot Court Board at this year's Weschler National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition,” said Morey. ”I am thrilled that we were able to win first place and add another plaque to our impressive collection of awards.”
The team was coached by attorney Michael T. Davis and recent Miami Law graduate Frank Sardinha III.
“We could not have done this without the hard work and dedication of our coaching staff,” said Morey. “It feels great knowing that we were able to make them proud.”
This is the fourth victory by the Papy Moot Court teams this academic year.
