Professor Osamudia James presented her work at Duke University School of Law’s interdisciplinary conference, "The Present and Future of Civil Rights Movements: Race and Reform in 21st Century America." Hosted by Duke Law's Center on Law, Race and Politics, the conference considered the evolution of the civil rights movement in the 21st century in response to persistent racial inequality, even as society marches toward imagined post-racial colorblindness. Professor James's paper considered the social, political, and legal investment people of color may have in their racial identity, and the significance of this investment for post-identity equality movements. Professor James will also deliver one of nine 'Cane Talks in celebration of University of Miami President Julio Frenk's upcoming inauguration. Professor James's scholarship explores the interaction of law and identity in the context of public education.
