CLE-approved event by the Center for Ethics and Public Service and the Children and Youth Law Clinic
WHAT: In honor of their 20th anniversaries, the University of Miami School of Law’s Center for Ethics and Public Service and the Children and Youth Law Clinic will host panel discussion looking at ways the digital age has altered both the way we communicate and our access to information. The interactive two-hour training will explore some of the changes in the legal ethics terrain over the past two decades that impact lawyers practicing in the public sector, nonprofit organizations, and private practice.
The program will include issues such as the impact of social media and technology on client communication and confidentiality, new digital standards for diligent representation from initial intake through discovery and trial of a case, and the evolution of the definition of competence, which now requires the understanding of technology’s impact on the practice of law.
WHO: Jan Jacobowitz and students in the Professional Responsibility & Ethics Program will facilitate the presentation. Jacobowitz is a Lecturer in Law, the Associate Director of the Center for Ethics & Public Service and the Director of the PREP will chair the panel.
WHERE: Room F109 at the University of Miami School of Law, 1311 Miller Drive, on the Coral Gables Campus. Parking is available at the Pavia garage, 1500 Pavia Street off the Ponce de Leon Boulevard entrance.
WHEN: September 23, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. A reception will follow on the Hilarie Bass Bricks until 8:30 p.m.
CLE: 2.5 approved Florida Bar in Ethics credits.
