Brazilian attorney and 2018 Commencement Student Marshall Felipe Hasson is graduating from Miami Law’s White & Case International Arbitration LL.M. program.
The Curitiba, Brazil native came to Miami Law in the spring 2017 as a visiting research scholar for his Ph.D. thesis in law from Universidade Federal do Paraná. He decided to stay for the International Arbitration LL.M.
“I chose Miami Law because of the high caliber of the professors and its focus on practical skills, combined with all that Miami has to offer as a city,” Hasson said. “From day one I felt right at home at UM and now I will consider myself a Cane forever!”
His favorite experiences in the program were the opportunity to work with two international arbitration firms in Miami through the International Arbitration LL.M. Practicum and the many international arbitration conferences and networking opportunities that Miami has to offer, such as the bimonthly Miami International Arbitration Society meetings and the ICC Miami International Arbitration Conference.
Hasson also gained valuable experience as a graduate research assistant on important international arbitration projects with Miami Law’s International Arbitration Institute. In addition, Hasson traveled to New York City to attend the prestigious International Student Interview Program, or “the NY Job Fair,” at New York University.
The fair, which attracts more than 160 of the leading legal employers from around the world, was one of the highlights of Hasson’s time at Miami Law. “The fair gives the students the chance to show their CVs to various firms and to have an idea of what the market is looking for in applicants,” Hasson said. “The support of the UM and especially the Career Development Office is a great plus, and the applicants are taught how to act on interviews and how to prepare. The job fair opened many doors for me professionally, and was certainly one of the high points of the whole LL.M. experience.”
Ultimately, Hasson received a much-coveted job offer from Hogan Lovells’ international arbitration group, a top-ranked law firm. He will sit for the New York Bar in July and start his new position immediately after.
Hasson received his law degree from UniCuritiba, and a master’s degree in constitutional law from UniBrasil. He has been teaching private international law and international arbitration at UniCuritiba since 2012, and he also practiced international law and dispute resolution as a partner at Hasson Advogados.
