Professor Rebecca Sharpless, Director of Miami Law’s Immigration Clinic received the Excellence in Advocacy Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association, South Florida Chapter, for class action litigation brought on behalf of Somali nationals who were shackled and abused on a botched deportation flight. At the organization's annual conference, she gave talks on immigration law and crimes and moderated a discussion on U.S. district court litigation. Professor Sharpless researches and writes in the areas of progressive lawyering, feminist theory, and the intersection of immigration and criminal law.
