Brazilian attorney Marshall Felipe Hasson traveled to New York City last year to attend the prestigious International Student Interview Program, or “the NY Job Fair” as part of the White & Case International Arbitration LL.M. program.
“The fair gives the students the chance to show their CVs to various firms and to have an idea of what the market is looking for in applicants,” Hasson said. “The support of the UM and especially the Career Development Office is a great plus, and the applicants are taught how to act on interviews and how to prepare. The job fair opened many doors for me professionally, and was certainly one of the high points of the whole LL.M. experience.”
The annual consortium event is held to facilitate the hiring of highly qualified foreign-trained lawyers enrolled in LL.M. programs at each school. The program attracts more than 160 of the leading legal employers from around the world, who review student resumes based on their hiring needs and country of practice. Over 1,600 candidates representing more than 75 countries will have an opportunity to be considered for internship and permanent positions in the United States and abroad.
“Miami Law has been participating for decades,” said Marcelyn Cox, assistant dean for Career Development at Miami Law. “It is the premier job fair for international opportunities in the country and the best firms participate. It is highly competitive.”
It was through the job fair that Hasson landed a much-coveted job in Hogan Lovells’ international arbitration group. After graduating in May, Hasson will take the New York Bar in July and then begin his new career at the top-ranked law firm.
Hasson, a native of Curitiba, Brazil, came to Miami Law in the spring 2017 as a visiting research scholar for his Ph.D. thesis in law from Universidade Federal do Paraná. He decided to stay for the International Arbitration LL.M.
