Joshua Mandel, J.D. '18
Mandel will begin working as a first-year Associate at Taft, Stettinius, & Hollister in Cleveland, Ohio in fall 2018 (During his 2L summer, he worked as a Summer Associate for the firm). In 2020, Mandel will be clerking for the Honorable Paul C. Huck of the Southern District of Florida.
During his 1L summer at Miami Law, Mandel interned for Magistrate Judge John O'Sullivan and was an Executive Intern for Miami-Dade Public Defender Carlos Martinez. During his 3L year, Mandel served as a fellow in the Health Rights Clinic and as the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Miami Law Review, and received the Dean's Writing Prize Award in Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law and the Innovative Service in the Public Interest Award.
Regarding his PREP experience, Mandel reflects, "PREP offers students the opportunity to learn the elements of effective representation––mastering the substantive law at issue while simultaneously upholding the ethical and professional expectations of the profession. In each of the PREP CLE presentations, interns are able to analyze complex ethical questions, and subsequently discuss them with prominent and experienced practitioners and judges in the community. I am confident that my PREP experience has given me a unique, important perspective in advance of my forthcoming practice."
Blaine B. Remmick, J.D. '18
Remmick is currently working in the Corporate group at Holland & Knight and will return to this firm after completing the Bar exam as a first-year associate. During his 1L summer, Remmick interned with the Honorable Darrin P. Gayles for the District Court of the Southern District of Florida.
During his 2L summer, Remmick worked as a summer associate for Bressler, Amery, & Ross in its Securities Defense group. During law school, he served as the 11th Circuit Editor for the University of Miami Law Review and won multiple Dean's Certificates and CALI Awards for his academic excellence. Remmick was also as a member of the Public Interest Leadership Board, the Society of Bar and Gavel, Phi Alpha Delta, the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Law Student Division, the Investor Rights Clinic, and PREP.
Regarding his PREP experience, Remmick offered, "For me, the PREP program was a fantastic resource that helped me develop as a legal professional while working with a great group of classmates and legal practitioners. Additionally, the PREP program combined academic research with real-life ethics rules application, which helped me appreciate the intersection of these two areas.."
Yasbel Perez, J.D. '18
Yasbel will be joining the law firm of Wargo French this fall. Perez is a Cuban-native who arrived to the United States when she was twelve-years-old. Prior to attending law school, she worked at various law firms, which is what captured her interest in the legal field.
At Miami Law Perez was on the executive board of the Charles C. Papy Moot Court Board, a member of the Business Law Review Journal, and an intern at the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program.
The PREP experience resonated with Perez, “If I had to say what was the most memorable moments of law school, PREP would definitely be on the top of the list. It’s a class like no other that enhances a set of skills (like writing and public speaking) that no other class or program does.”

PREP is an award-winning program, which develops continuing legal education ethics training for the legal community. The program combines the attributes of an ethics institute and an ethics clinic, and has dedicated hundreds of student hours to public service and has educated thousands of members of the Bench & Bar. During training, students are often able to make a positive impact on attendees by prompting them to consider and reconsider their approaches to some of the toughest ethical dilemmas that may arise in the practice of law.
In 2012, PREP was recognized by the ABA with its E. Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Award, the leading national award recognizing programs and projects contributing to the understanding and advancement of professionalism among lawyers and judges. In addition to presenting ethics training, throughout the semester PREP students publish blog posts regarding the nation’s newest ethics opinions.
