Jan L. Jacobowitz recently presented at Canada’s National Judicial Institute, which hosted a Family Law and Social Media Program in Vancouver for Canada’s Federal Justices. Her presentation was titled “Judges on Social Media: A Perspective on the U.S. Experience” and was a part of the program’s panel discussion on Judicial Ethics and Social Media. Jacobowitz was also recently invited to become a American Bar Foundation Fellow, which is a global honorary society of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. Membership in the Fellows is limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Fellows are recommended by their peers and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation. Jacobowitz is the Director of the Professional Responsibility & Ethics Program at Miami Law. She has written and been a featured speaker throughout the country on topics such as Legal Ethics in Social Media and Advertising, Lawyer’s First Amendment Rights, Cybersecurity for Lawyers, Technology and the Law, Attorney Fees, and E-Discovery. In addition to PREP, Jacobowitz teaches Mindful Ethics: Professional Responsibility for Lawyers in the Digital Age and Social Media and the Law. She is the co-author of the book, Legal Ethics and Social Media, A Practitioner’s Handbook, published by the ABA in June 2017.
