Patricia A. Brown, Director of Miami Law’s Taxation LL.M. and Taxation of Cross-Border Investment LL.M. program at Miami Law, was a featured speaker at the XII International Tax meeting organized by the Center of Fiscal Studies of the Universidad Externado de Colombia.
Her presentations included “U.S. Perspective on Tax Avoidance” and “Anti-avoidance Rules in the U.S. Tax Treaty Model.” The first presentation highlighted the roles of the legislatures and the courts in the development of tax law in the United States. The second focused on the development of the U.S. anti-treaty shopping rules over the last four decades.
Miami Law is proud to offer a scholarship toward tuition fees for any LL.M. program for up to four graduates from the Universidad Externado de Colombia.
Brown was also a panelist at the Instituto Colombiano De Derecho Tributario (ICDT) Tratados Fiscales con los Estados Unidos conference and discussed “Negotiating a Tax Treaty with the United States (in a post-BEPS World).”
Miami Law currently has an agreement of collaboration with the ICDT under which Miami Law provides a scholarship of $15,000 USD toward the LL.M. tuition fees for up to four graduates nominated by the ICDT and approved by Miami Law to attend one of Miami Law’s LL.M. programs.
Yasmina Assis, Associate Director of Miami Law’s International Graduate Law Programs, adds, “This is the first step to advance the academic collaboration agreement between Miami Law and Universidad Externado de Colombia. It’s a great opportunity to build academic relations between the two institutions.”
