Lecturer in Law Jan L. Jacobowitz was elected president of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers at its Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Jacobowitz also moderated a panel at the meeting that was titled, "Redacted, Revealed & Recalled? Revisiting Confidentiality and Inadvertent Transmittal in the Digital Age." APRL is comprised of more than 450 lawyers, law professors and judges holding an interest in lawyers’ professional responsibility, legal ethics, legal malpractice, and the evolving law of lawyering, primarily through the application of the rules of lawyer ethics to the practice of law. Jacobowitz also recently participated as a panelist at the Professional Liability Defense Federation’s Annual Meeting in Chicago. The panel was titled, "#Misconduct: Ethical Considerations of Social Media and the Jury." Jacobowitz is the Director of the Professional Responsibility & Ethics Program at Miami Law. She has written and been a featured speaker throughout the country on topics such as Legal Ethics in Social Media and Advertising, Lawyer’s First Amendment Rights, Cybersecurity for Lawyers, Technology and the Law, Attorney Fees, and E-Discovery. Jacobowitz is the co-author of the book, Legal Ethics & Social Media—A Practitioner’s Handbook, which the ABA published in July 2017. In addition to PREP, Jacobowitz teaches Mindful Ethics: Professional Responsibility for Lawyers in the Digital Age and Social Media and the Law.
