Continuing to Garner Top Rankings

Miami Law was included in the Top 10 listing due to its strength in the areas of entertainment and sports, and this is the second year in the entertainment rankings. “Being included among so distinguished a group of educators in 2019 encouraged us to believe that our efforts were worthy of acknowledgment, says Harold A. Flegelman, Director of the Entertainment track. “Being included again in 2020 only inspires us to work harder as we prepare our students to practice law in the industries.”

This recognition for Entertainment Law follows up the school’s inclusion in Billboard Magazine’s ranking for Best Law Schools for Music Law in 2019 and in 2017.

Expertise in Entertainment and Sports Law

The school offers the unique LL.M. in Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law – with specialization tracks in Sports Law and Entertainment Law. Greg Levy, Director of the LL.M. program, says, "We were thrilled to learn of our inclusion among the top programs in both entertainment and sports. Our steadfast approach to providing skills-based training while exposing students to the top practitioners in the space through our unique curriculum and professional development opportunities have helped differentiate our program.”

Access to Talent and Experience

Students interested in the entertainment and sports law arenas have access to experts from faculty to practitioners to media and sports talent.

“We could not do this without the support and participation of a large community including our world-renowned track directors, our advisory board and the more than one hundred practitioners each year that volunteer their time to our program as faculty, guest lecturers, practicum supervisors, mentors, and conference participants," says Levy.

Leading the Sports Law track is expert Peter Carfagna who teaches courses including “Representing the Professional Athlete” and “Negotiating and Drafting Sports Venue Agreements.” As an example of talent, in February 2020, Carfagna had Eduardo Perez, Former Major League Baseball and Current ESPN Analyst speak to students in his class on the topics of career and securing post-playing opportunities in broadcasting.
