Miami Law Offers Post-Graduate LL.M. Info Webinars

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (May 18, 2020) – The University of Miami School of Law is offering a series of informational webinars on May 26 through May 29 about the postgraduate LL.M. offerings. Participants qualify for an application fee waiver and can register online.

The programs help U.S. and foreign-trained law students and lawyers raise their practice to new heights and deepen specialization. The pivot point between the Americas and Europe and fueled by an influx of international ideas, students gain hands-on learning from industry experts in a city that is a ready-made laboratory for legal training in various fields.

Upon graduation, LL.M. students join a successful, global alumni network, remaining part of the Miami Law community.

Program directors from each niche specialty will be on hand to discuss and answer questions.

On Tuesday, May 26, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., Greg Levy, director of the LL.M. in Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law, a program available only at Miami Law, will talk about the combined graduate degree to focus on areas of law that in today’s world are expanding, converging and at times, intersecting. Hands-on, practical learning teaches skills of high value which can provide the tipping point for attorneys contending for jobs in very competitive areas.

Carmen Perez-Llorca, assistant dean of International and Graduate Programs and Director of the U.S. & Transnational Law for Foreign Lawyers, and Intensive Legal English + LL.M. will talk about  the study of law in a context that emphasizes American common law and its impact in the global economy, on Wednesday, May 27, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Also on May 27, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Patricia Brown, director of the Taxation and Taxation of Cross-Border Investment LL.M., will discuss the program which is focused on building a better tax lawyer who develops the "tax sense" necessary to resolve tax problems with confidence.

Later in the day, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Raquel Matas, director of the Real Property Development LL.M., will dive into the program which is focused on developing an understanding of land acquisition, finance, regulation, tax law, construction law, residential and commercial development, landlord-tenant, closings, negotiation, planning strategies, and drafting.

The Estate Planning LL.M., which offers a unique combination of tax and non-tax estate planning courses unavailable elsewhere, will be discussed by the director, Tina Portuondo, on Thursday, May 28, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, May 29, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Sandra Friedrich, director of the International Arbitration LL.M., will talk about the program which provides a unique individualized educational curriculum and opportunity for a small group of top-quality students from a range of countries, wishing to acquire an in-depth grounding in the field of international arbitration as a platform for a successful career.

Also on Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Perez-Llorca will delve into the International and Maritime Law LL.M.s. The international program offers to specializations: general studies in international law or inter-American law. The maritime program includes the study of the international law of the sea, admiralty law, and marine and environmental law and policy.

Registrants of the webinars are eligible for an application fee waiver when using the Miami Law School LL.M. online application.
