New Miami Law Podcast Explores Lessons in Leadership

Miami Law has launched a new podcast, The Leadership Gameplan, where accomplished professionals share their unique lens on leadership. Miami Law alumnus, adjunct professor, and coach Marc Trestman hosts the show and Greg Levy, director of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law LL.M. Program is the executive producer. The podcast can be heard on SoundCloud or Spotify.

In episode one, Tom Friedman, author and New York Times columnist, discusses the state of global leadership. Three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Friedman speaks about how listening and building trust with others has helped him achieve professional success through his interactions with political figures around the world.

Philadelphia Eagles vice president of football operations Catherine Raiche talks about her path from attorney in Montreal, Canada to National Football League executive in episode two. Trestman and Raiche explore how preparation, humility, and integrity has helped Raiche develop into the leader she is.

Upcoming episodes will feature the stories of Toronto Raptors’ coach and NBA Champion Nick Nurse; former NFL wide receiver and mental health advocate Brandon Marshall; and lawyer and former Oakland Raiders’ CEO Amy Trask.

Former NFL head coach voices the podcast

“I believe that everyone can lead, and it is an honor for me to help our distinguished guests share their personal narratives and leadership journeys with our audience,” says Trestman, who teaches a leadership course at Miami Law’s Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law LL.M. program.

Trestman began his coaching career at the University of Miami during law school and was the QB coach for Miami’s first National Championship in 1983.Trestman has had an extensive NFL coaching career as a QB coach, offensive coordinator and NFL head coach as well as a three-time Grey Cup Champion Head Coach in the Canadian Football League winning back-to-back championships in Montreal in 2009-2010 and in Toronto in 2017. Trestman was also a 2 time CFL Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2017.

Trestman has been a member of the Miami Law EASL program since 2014 and began co-teaching A Playbook for Leadership and Law as an adjunct faculty member in the program in 2020.

Highly sought-after degree program

The postgraduate program is only at the University of Miami School of Law, and taught by prominent faculty and practicing attorneys. Students studying in the combined graduate degree to focus on areas of law that in today’s world are expanding, converging and at times, intersecting. Hands-on, practical learning teaches skills of high value which can provide the tipping point for attorneys contending for jobs in very competitive areas.
