There are many reasons foreign-trained lawyers come from across the world to study an LL.M. degree and many attribute their career success to their experiences in Miami Law's post-graduate LL.M. programs. Two such 2019 graduates are Francisco Rodriguez Rubio of Colombia who received an LL.M. degree in International Law with a specialization in U.S. and Transnational Law for Foreign-Trained Lawyers, and Bayan Alhejji of Saudi Arabia who completed her LL.M. in International Law.
Francisco Rodriguez Rubio
The 2019 LL.M. graduate describes his decision to pursue an LL.M. degree with University of Miami Law as “the best decision of my life as well as for my career aspirations.” Hailing from Colombia, Francisco specializes in providing single point of contact legal support for the go-to-market territories selling to state and local governments, as well as a variety of contractual and operational matters.
Since graduating, Francisco has worked for multinational corporations such as Bacardi-Martini Inc., which was his first job after graduating where he worked for the in-house legal department. He now works at Motorola Solutions’ where he continues to pursue his corporate legal ambitions as in-house Corporate Legal Counsel. Francisco went on to obtain his Authorized In-House Legal license from the Florida Bar in June 2021.
He states that his time at UM has “opened a variety of opportunities for me, such as adapting to the American work environment and learning about the corporate legal world.” Francisco is grateful for the diverse learning environment the LL.M. program establishes, believing that it granted him the exposure and networking opportunities he was hoping to gain when entering his field.
Bayan Alhejji
Bayan Alheiji also values the diverse environment at Miami Law and believes that the diversity of thought in the LL.M. program in International Law allows for an exchange of ideas in which everyone benefits, gaining new perspectives otherwise unconsidered. Selected to serve as Student Marshal during her Miami Law commencement ceremony, Bayan is recognized as a leader for her academic accomplishments and dedication to her studies.
The 2019 graduate also continued to bright futures after completing her LL.M. degree in International Law. Since graduating, Bayan has been working with Saudi General Authority for Foreign Trade as a legal specialist in trade remedies. Her work focuses primarily on legal cases related to Saudi exports and foreign imports, concentrating on agreements that fall under the World Trade Organization, where the skills she gained from working in the diverse work environment offered by UM continue to aid her in her career.
