Craig Trocino, director of the Innocence Clinic, recently appeared in criminal court with associate director Melissa Swain on behalf of a Health Rights Clinic client. The judge granted the clinic’s motion to vacate two felony traffic cases. The Health Rights Clinic is now one step closer to being able to obtain Temporary Protected Status for this elderly disabled Haitian national.
Before joining the law school, Trocino was an Assistant Capital Collateral Regional Counsel for the Southern Region of Florida where his practice focused on representing death sentenced inmates in postconviction and habeas corpus proceedings. He is also an experienced AV rated appellate litigator having been counsel of record on more than 200 direct appeals and extraordinary writs in state and federal courts.
Prior to working at the Health Rights Clinic, Swain was the Public Benefits Staff Attorney at Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center in Miami. She also worked as a community organizer with Americorps and a paralegal with Greater Boston Legal Services. She is the co-author of Helping Haiti in the Wake of Disaster: Law Students as First Responders.
