Double Cane and Miami Law Alumna, Jennifer Prevatte Jordan B.A. ’06 and J.D. ’12, is empowering women and families in both the legal and business worlds. Jennifer serves as the Vice President & Associate General Counsel of Unified Women’s Healthcare, headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. Unified Women’s Healthcare has become the largest physician practice management company whose business model is solely dedicated to women. Jennifer’s work with the company helps support OB-GYN providers across the country with their business and regulatory needs. The company uses data analytics to support clinical research and improve patient outcomes, so that women’s health professionals can provide optimal patient care for women of all ages.

Jennifer gained exposure to health care law while a student here at the School of Law, and credits her time at Miami Law for much of her success. Jennifer was living on the West Coast when she received her acceptance letter from UM Law and knew it was time to return to her alma mater, which provided her with an unmatched experience as an undergraduate at UM. Throughout her time in law school, Jennifer had several internship and law firm experiences, however she had not discovered an area of law she envisioned herself practicing. Jenn’s father, a physician, encouraged her to explore health law. Shortly after, Jennifer enrolled in Miami Law’s Health Law Practicum, headed by Professor Mary Coombs. In addition to studying healthcare law in the classroom, the Health Law Practicum facilitated students gaining healthcare law experience at law firms and public sector agencies. Thus, Jennifer applied to McDermott Will & Emery and was chosen by the firm for an externship.

During her practicum experience, Jennifer learned the ins and outs of health care law, and she fell in love with the field and firm. Furthermore, she worked hard and forged relationships with the attorneys at MWE, and was subsequently hired as an at the firm. Jennifer began her legal career in MWE’s Health Industry Practice Group, where she practiced health care transactional law. Jennifer was the first extern to be selected for a post-graduation associate position at the firm and attributes starting her career at the #1 healthcare law firm in the country to her experience in Miami Law’s Health Law Practicum. Moreover, Jennifer cites her experience working in BigLaw to training her, developing her writing skills, and heightening her attention to detail—all qualities that shaped her success in her current position as Associate General Counsel.

Apart from Jennifer’s successful career in the health care law field, she has touched the lives of many families through her small business Happy Lil One. As a working mom of young children, she became frustrated with her children’s clothing becoming constantly stained and faded and craved more versatility in children’s clothing. Recognizing that adults live in their quick-dry, re-wearable athleisure, Jennifer knew that the materials used in athleticwear would not only be perfect for little ones as they explore and learn but would also be easy for parents to wash without leading to fading. Thus, Jennifer, along with her sister created Happy Lil One—a clothing line for babies and toddlers that utilizes stain-resistant, quick-dry, UVA & UVB protective products.
