Miami Law’s Litigation Skills Program launched a sponsored Continuing Legal Education program this spring. The program offers legal education courses on various topics aimed at providing a resource for students and lawyers while connecting the law school to the local legal community. Registration for the courses is free, and lawyers can obtain CLE credits approved by the Florida Bar.
“Our CLE program came about rather organically when I was discussing the importance of jury instructions with one of our adjuncts, Ben Widlanski, and how I would like to provide more information to the students outside of the classroom,” said Jeannie Jontiff, acting director of the Litigation Skills Program. “Ben had just done a presentation to the young lawyers at his firm similar to the one that he did for us, and I asked if he would do it as a CLE for Litigation Skills, and voila!”
Sponsored by Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, the first CLE, “The Order of Proof (Driving Directions for Litigators),” was held in January 2022 and was led by Widlanski, chair of the class action practice group at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton.
The second CLE was held in April and discussed “Powerful Witness Preparation.” Attorney Dan Small led the presentation, sponsored by the law firm Holland & Knight
“When the SEC Comes Calling, What to Expect” was the third CLE and was led by Eric I. Bustillo, director of the Miami regional office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The Litigation Skills Program sponsored the July CLE program.
This semester, the Litigation Skills Program will present “Ensuring Best Practices and Avoiding Pitfalls in Today’s Virtual Court,” led by Judge Jason Dimitris October 19. Click here to register.
“Our goal is to be a source of information for both students and lawyers in our community,” said Jontiff.
