Miami Law has expertise in 18 areas of study and offers students the opportunity to focus their studies. So, it is not surprising that PreLaw Magazine’s Back to School and Fall 2022 issues have once again given high marks to Miami Law in a variety of these legal areas.

‘A’ in Business and Criminal Law

With 100+ courses and experiences in the area of business law, students receive a thorough understanding of the intersection of law and business. The law school also provides hands-on opportunities in its Investor Rights, Bankruptcy, and Startup Clinics. The wide array of programs and joint degrees are a few reasons the PreLaw Fall 2022 Magazine issue gave Miami Law an ‘A” grade in business law.

Criminal law is also a strength, and students can become practice-ready through numerous experiential learning opportunities, and Miami Law’s highly acclaimed Litigation Skills Program. These offerings plus an Innocence Clinic and exceptional courses are a few reasons Miami Law received an ‘A’ grade in criminal law

Leader in Legal Technology

To prepare students for the growing landscape in the legal tech area, Miami Law offers a plethora of courses as well as concentrations. Not surprisingly, PreLaw Magazine listed Miami Law as a leader in Legal Technology in its Back to School 2022 issue. Hands-on learning is an additional focus with the Startup Clinic and the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative. The School is also well-known for We Robot, a conference on legal and policy issues relating to robotics, as well as LawWithoutWalls program, an all-virtual experiential learning initiative.

‘A’ in Health Law, Human Rights, Child & Family Law

For the fast-growing field of health law coupled with students interested in specializing in this area, Miami Law recently launched a health care law area of focus. In addition, the law school partners with UM graduate schools to offer joint degrees in medicine, public health, and health administration, and it also provides a Health Rights Clinic for hands-on experience. These offerings and more combined to garner an ‘A’ in health law in PreLaw Magazine’s 2022 Back to School issue

Another benefit of Miami Law’s vast curriculum is that students can complement their study of human rights law with courses in constitutional law, criminal law, family law, immigration law, international law, real estate law, and social justice and public interest law. Moreover, there are numerous opportunities for hands-on advocacy with the Human Rights Program and robust Human Rights clinic. For these offerings and more, PreLaw Magazine afforded Miami Law an ‘A’ in Human Rights Law

A focus on family law has a long history at Miami law as the school’s first in-house clinic was the Children and Youth Law Clinic and contributed to PreLaw Magazine bestowing an ‘A-’ in Child & Family Law. The clinic allows students to represent children in foster care and former foster youth in dependency, health care, mental health, disability, education, immigration, and other civil legal matters.

PreLaw Magazine, which is part of a media group that has been the leading voice in legal education for 31 years, ranked schools based on breadth of curricular offerings specifically giving weight to clinics, concentrations, centers, externships, journals, and student groups.
