Miami Law Hosts Class Action & Complex Litigation Forum

As the pandemic slowly comes to an end, the legal industry is encountering a new world for class actions and similar complex litigation. New developments include the rise of bankruptcy to deal with mass tort claims, the new class action filings bubbling up from the collapse of the cryptocurrency market, and the emergence of U.S.-style class actions and similar procedures internationally. These new developments and more will be discussed at this year's annual Miami Law Class Action & Complex Litigation Forum at the University of Miami School of Law January 26 and 27, 2023.

The seventh annual forum offers a unique perspective for attorneys looking to understand the latest issues and topics associated with multi-district class actions and complex litigation. Originally the brainchild of three leading Miami firms in trial, appellate, and class action law, Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, Podhurst Orseck, and Harke Law LLP, this year's in-person conference brings together leaders in the legal, political, and academic spheres to educate those interested in the field on how to utilize and understand class actions.

"The University of Miami School of Law has attracted a wonderful group of judges, lawyers and academics to its Seventh Annual Class Action Forum," said Harley Tropin, J.D. '77, founding partner of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton. "There is no better way to learn the latest issues than to attend the forum," he said.

The lunch keynote will feature a conversation with Judge Robert M. Dow, Jr., of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, who concurrently serves as counselor to United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

Prominent judges, practitioners, and professors from around the United States–leaders in the field of mass torts, insurance, and consumer litigation–will sit on the day's panel discussions, which include Bankruptcy for Mass Torts; Hot Topics in Class Action, including Cryptocurrency; Non-U.S. Class Actions; and Nuts & Bolts Rule 23 Class Certification.

The Thursday, January 26, 2023, event, will be held at the University of Miami School of Law 1331 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, Florida, 33146, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The Friday, January 27, 2023, event will be held at the Shalala Student Center, 1330 Miller Drive, from 9 a.m. until 5: 30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.
