Executive Director of Development Michelle Johnson is the new chief development officer, working with Dean David Yellen to implement critical fundraising and alumni engagement strategies for the School of Law.
Johnson comes to Miami Law from one of Latin America's best business schools — the INCAE Business School — where she has played critical roles since 2004. Founded in collaboration with Harvard Business School in 1964, INCAE is a unique and leading institution dedicated to educating future leaders for the sustainable development of Latin America.
"Well-versed in developing and managing relationships for nonprofit and higher education organizations, Michelle's skillset will be invaluable to the School of Law's vision and efforts," wrote Yellen in the announcement.
As an experienced executive and leader, Johnson planned and developed INCAE's $50M capital campaign, 'Illuminate,' which helped elevate the school to its position as one of the top organizations in Latin America for U.S. donors. As the director of strategic partnerships, Johnson was instrumental in cultivating and securing funding for general support, scholarships, infrastructure, and impact programs, raising millions of dollars for the school.
"I am thrilled to join the School of Law and work alongside Dean Yellen, the faculty, staff, donors, alumni and community to help grow income from fundraising to support scholarships, endowed chairs and other critical needs," said Johnson.
Johnson holds a Master of Arts in Political Economy from the University of Essex and a Bachelor of Arts in International Business and Spanish from DePauw University. She lives in Miami with her husband, Marcos, and has two college-age daughters.
