The Law Alumni Association recently held its Miami-Dade Judicial Reception, where alumni were able to meet and network, and where a few alumni were honored.

The Law Alumni Association recently hosted the 2023 Miami-Dade Judicial Reception in Coral Gables. Sponsored by the law firm of Nelson Mullins and Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits, the reception honored members of the judiciary, alumni award recipients, and Dean’s Circle members. Four alumni received awards, including the Honorable Gina Beovides, J.D. ’05, Leigh-Ann Buchanan, J.D. ’09, Don Horn, J.D. ’82, and Freddi R. Mack, J.D. ’14.  The Honorable Paul C. Huck, judge of the United States District Court of the Southern District of Florida, was also honored.

Daniel Newman, J.D. ’91, president of the Law Alumni Association and Dean David Yellen presented the awards to the following:

The Law Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes alumni nationally who have excelled in their chosen profession and in service to Miami Law, was given to two alumnae:  the Honorable Beovides, a judge in the Florida 11th Circuit Court, and Buchanan, president of the Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, which helps support start-ups.

The Young Alumni Rising Star Award was presented to Mack, a senior assistant city attorney at the City of Miami Beach.

The “We are Proud of U” award was given to Judge Huck and Horn, the chief assistant state attorney for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

The awards recognize Miami Law alumni and members of the judiciary whose professional achievements, leadership, and service to the legal community are noteworthy.
